The Local 502 Union Membership is 560 and there are about 700 Casual workers. The Local's jurisdiction includes docks along the Fraser River and the Westshore/DeltaPort Sites (Roberts Banks). Local 502 has had a large increase in the amount of containers it handles since the opening of the container terminal at Delatport in June 1997. Starting last year they also have had a large increase in containers at Fraser Surrey Docks. Their latest addition is IDC which will employ 502 members in an intermodal yard adjacent to Fraser Surrey. They have recently signed a Collective Agreement with 502 and will open this summer.
