A Hyatt worker experienced a dangerous incident on the job: Help make Hyatt safe for workers
The following is a callout to community allies from UNITE HERE Local 40:
“Dear Allies,
Last month, a room attendant at Hyatt Regency Vancouver experienced a serious and disturbing incident with a guest.
While she was cleaning a guest’s bathroom, the guest suddenly appeared and blocked the washroom door with his body. The man, who appeared to be intoxicated, would not move when she asked him to do so. She managed to slip away and reported the incident to a manager and to co-workers. He reappeared in another guest room that she was cleaning. He refused to leave and began shouting at her. She managed to escape and reported the incident again.
Local 40 wants to fully investigate this incident, but Hyatt’s management will not give us access to do so. The incident has been reported to police and to WorkSafe.
We’re looking for community allies who want to participate in a community-led investigation into this serious incident.
Please reply to this message or email us at mtravis@unitehere40.com if you would like to join us and make Hyatt Vancouver safe for workers.
Sincerely,
UNITE HERE Local 40″
