To our friends and allies in the community,
We are reaching out to invite you to stand with us in solidarity with the people of Venezuela, and to raise our voices collectively against imperialism. Escalating U.S. aggression toward Venezuela has undermined international law in favour of a might-makes-right approach to geopolitics. Trump’s administration is creating global instability, leaving us all wondering who will be next? Will it be Cuba? Mexico? Colombia? Greenland? Iran? Maybe it will be Canada.
And yet, the Canadian government continues to be complicit in US militarism. Mark Carney’s austerity budget has already resulted in thousands of job losses and deep cuts to social programs, with more to come, all to meet Trump’s demand that Canada and all NATO countries fork over 5% of GDP to military contractors. This means $150 billion annually will be diverted away from the things we desperately need, such as affordable housing, healthcare investments, jobs, education and other social supports.
It is critical that our movements come together, linking opposition to war with the demands for people’s needs.
The CCFA, Vancouver Peace Council, Free Palestine BC and ILPS Canada are organizing a Rally & March in Vancouver for the Global Day of Action in Solidarity with Venezuela. Join us to show Canada and the world that we will not stand for this any longer!
