Dispute at Port of Longview, Washington

In an ongoing dispute with EGT, a grain export terminal in Longview, Washington, ILWU protested yesterday by blocking tracks en route to the terminal. Joining the longshore workers was International President Robert, “Big Bob”, McEllrath.

Some arrests were made, including President McEllrath who was detained and subsequently released.

Our international brothers and sisters to the south of us are fighting not only for their rightful jurisdiction but also fighting for all I.L.W.U Workers.The companies are always trying ways to break our union up and down the entire west coast,and what EGT is doing in Longview Washington is a blatant example.

EGT should be ashamed that they have chosen to create this situation by failing to honor long established master grain agreements and over 80 years of I.L.W.U Jurisdiction. The Operator Engineers Local 701 should also reconsider their attempt at Manning a fellow unions long established jurisdiction.Union VS Companies is hard enough but making a Union VS Union battle only makes the companies job to weaken all unions the easier.

All I.L.W.U Workers need to pay attention to this fight and if need be add what ever support we can muster to help out I.L.W.U Local 21 win their right to man this grain terminal with I.L.W.U workers.This is a fight not just for one terminal this is a fight for all terminals from Stewart to Longbeach.An injury to one is an injury to all.

AS MUCH AS THE WORLD IS CHANGING—–THE PICTURES SHOW IT IS “THE OLD SCHOOL GUYS” THAT CARRY THE BALL TIME AND TIME AGAIN. I JUST HOPE THE COURTS HAVE ENOUGH SENSE TO DROP ALL CHARGES
